The short answer

Yes, you can take a Stress Free RVs rental to Burning Man. We offer flat-rate playa packages from $1,999 for a small towable trailer and from $6,500 for a Class C motorhome, with playa-ready prep on every unit. Burning Man 2027 runs August 29 to September 6, and the best units go early, so book in the first half of the year.

Can you take a rental RV to Burning Man?

Yes, with the right company. Many RV owners on the big rental marketplaces exclude Burning Man in their listings. The alkaline dust, the heat and the long drive are hard on a rig, so a lot of owners simply say no.

We take the opposite approach. Burning Man is a trip we plan for all year. Every unit we send to the playa gets an event-specific inspection, generator service and a full walkthrough before it leaves San Diego. You get a rig that is ready for the desert, and a team that knows what the desert does to a rig.

If you have been turned away by an owner who will not allow the playa, start with our Burning Man page. It lists every eligible unit, checked live against the event window.

Burning Man 2027 dates and distance from San Diego

Burning Man 2027 runs August 29 to September 6, 2027 in Black Rock City, Nevada. The 2027 theme is Spellbound.

Black Rock City is about 650 to 700 miles from San Diego. That is roughly 11 to 13 hours of driving, most of it up US-395 through the Owens Valley, then through Reno or across to Gerlach. Most of our renters split the drive with an overnight stop.

Budget extra time for the Gate line on arrival and for Exodus on the way out. Both can add many hours. Fill up in Reno, then again at the last station before the playa, because small local stations can run out during event week.

Flat-rate Burning Man packages

We price the burn as a flat-rate package, not nightly rates. You know the number up front. Required event fees and insurance are added separately, and we show them before you book.

  • Small towable trailer (sleeps up to 3): $1,999
  • XL towable trailer (sleeps 6 to 8, two entrances): $2,500
  • XXL towable trailer (sleeps 8 to 10, second bathroom): $3,500
  • Class B camper van (sleeps 2 to 4): $4,500
  • Class C motorhome (sleeps 6 to 8, generator and AC): $6,500
  • Class C bunkhouse (sleeps 8 to 10, separate bunk room): $7,500
  • Class A diesel pusher (sleeps up to 6): $12,500

Tip: Required Burning Man fees: $250 for orientation and pre and post-trip inspections on every unit, plus $1,200 for the Burning Man service on motorized RVs (oil change, tune up, generator service, enhanced inspections).

Trailer or motorhome?

Travel trailers are the most affordable way to bring a real bed, kitchen and bathroom to the playa. You need a properly rated tow vehicle and hitch. Tell us what you drive and we will match a trailer it can safely pull. Trailers are something most motorhome-only companies do not offer for the burn at all.

Motorhomes are the simplest option. Everyone rides together, there is no hitching, and the onboard generator and air conditioning make the afternoon heat bearable. Class C motorhomes are the playa workhorse. A Class C bunkhouse works well for groups who want a separate bunk room.

Browse examples like the 2018 Thor Four Winds 31E bunkhouse, the 2019 Coachmen Freelander 31BH, or the 2022 Forest River Alta 2800KBH travel trailer.

Pickup and delivery options

Most renters pick up at our meeting point at Sycuan Market in El Cajon and drive north. If you would rather not drive the whole way, we offer delivery tiers:

  • Self-pickup at Sycuan Market, El Cajon: $0
  • Delivery to Los Angeles: $1,999
  • Delivery to Las Vegas: $2,999
  • Delivery to the Reno and Sparks staging area: $3,999
  • Delivery to Black Rock City: $4,999. Our driver enters with a valid Burning Man ticket.

What playa-ready prep includes

Every Burning Man unit gets a pre-trip inspection, generator service, a full walkthrough tutorial and the essential supply kit. Motorized units also get an oil change and tune up as part of the Burning Man service.

You can add a Playa Prep Pack that arrives with cardboard floors, plastic mattress covers, vent bandanas and painter's tape already installed. You can also add an unlimited portable generator, Starlink WiFi, extra water capacity, e-bikes for getting around the city, and LUDIFY playa convenience so we handle water, waste and propane after the burn.

How to protect the rig (and your deposit)

The playa is fine alkaline dust that gets into everything. Returning the unit clean is the single biggest factor in getting your full security deposit back.

  • Seal windows with wide painter's tape and cover vents with bandanas.
  • Cover floors with cardboard, mattresses with plastic, and upholstery with sheets or tapestries.
  • Keep doors closed and keep shoes outside. No exceptions.
  • Never open the awning. Playa wind destroys awnings, and damage starts at $5,000.
  • Run a cool mist humidifier inside and refill it day and night.
  • Bring an extra spare tire. Tires, wheels and rims are not covered by insurance.
  • Follow the event's rules on greywater and MOOP (matter out of place). Nothing goes on the ground.

Tip: Units returned dirty are charged a minimum 4-hour interior deep clean at $250 per hour, and exterior power washing can add a matching $1,000 minimum. A bucket of water and vinegar on the way out saves real money.

What to pack for an RV at Burning Man

Download maps, tickets and the iBurn app before you leave. There is no reliable cell service on the playa. Then pack the basics the RV does not cover:

  • Goggles or eye protection, and closed-toe shoes
  • At least 1 gallon of water per person per day
  • Extra propane, more than you think you need
  • LED and solar lights so you can find your RV at night
  • Roadside assistance details written on paper
  • Water and vinegar solution for the post-burn wipe down

When to book

Burning Man is our biggest week of the year, and playa-eligible units are limited. Book as soon as you have a ticket plan, ideally between January and April. Motorhomes and the larger trailers are the first to go.

“Rented a trailer for a camping weekend and everything went really well. Was able to pickup trailer and everything worked out well for the weekend. Generator worked good to power the AC and keep everything cool even though we were camping in the desert heat with no shade. Definitely will rent from again.”
